Lofty Works of Art at Dsquared2 S/S 2015 Milan Fashion Week

The theme for DSquared2’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection was “squared volume”—or rather, #SQUAREDVOLUME. Though the attendees of the Canadian twins’s Milan Fashion Week show simply saw the classic trends of cropped T-shirts and ball gown skirts, there was an overarching, maximalist theme present in this spirited show.

After each plain white cropped tee, an art-deco-inspired jacket or skirt was soon to follow. There was even a yellow-feathered bubble skirt in the mix, but the floor-length ball gown skirt was the standout—a psychedelic-styled print of red, yellow, green and gold. Nonetheless, there was still a charming devil-may-care spirit to each look, having been combined with black thick-rimmed glasses.

In a post-show interview with Vogue France, Dean and Dan Caten, co-founders and owners of DSquared2, had this to say of their collection: “The hashtag was Squared Volume, so what volume means for us, it could mean … the intensity of a color … the shape. Here we are in sort of a New York loft, an artist’s loft, where the girls are becoming the art … in motion.” They added, “Part of talking about the volume is with little mini-sculptures. A lot of the garments had forms of their own … they were shapes, so a lot of trousers had a little twist in the leg. Each item was kind of a special piece, a special art piece. And then what we tried to do was that she had stolen three things from her boyfriend. His eyewear, his underwear, and his jeans.”

The collection is perfect for women who wish to add some zest to the basic necessities in their closet.
