A Southern Resort Draped in Silk at Missoni’s 2015 Spring/Summer Collection

Naturally, the fashion powerhouse that is Missoni would not bring their trademark printed wool knits to the runway for the Spring/Summer 2015 season. The collection that was shown in Milan for Fashion Week was decidedly bohemian, airy and reminiscent of a wealthy resort town by the sea.

As if pulled straight from a gallery of Impressionist art, each silhouette was relaxed, loose and draped effortlessly in silk. Mint green empire dresses, goldenrod belted coats, and ruby red caftans made their way down the runway. Many of the looks were accessorized with matching head wraps, which, when paired with the tessellation-printed dress, drew a significant parallel to the Ankara print from West Africa.

In an April 2014 interview with Harrods.com, Angela Missoni, the Creative Director, was asked to describe the eponymous fashion house in three words. Her response was as follows: “Three words are really too little for Missoni—Missoni is more than three words. It's, of course, color [sic], we know it's action because it's vibrant, we can say it's pattern, it's a style, but it's also very feminine and masculine.”

In the case of this collection, the color is a celebratory range of violet, gold, turquoise, spearmint and ruby. There is an earthiness to the clothes, and a serene affluence that lies within their threads.
