London Fashion Week Special : Fashion Week London Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2014-15 Highlights

Paris, New York and Tokyo. Alongside these other shining stars in the fashion universe is the city of London. Globally, it hosts one of the “big four” fashion weeks, alongside New York, Milan and Paris. Like the city itself, London’s fashion weeks have a distinct creative voice. London embodies a visceral energy; it celebrates edgy graduates who will change the face of fashion and dynamically engages the perennially influential London music scene with its unique street fashion culture.

Typically courting controversy, Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label collection for Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 encouraged Scotland to vote for independence from the U.K. in the historic referendum, and the collection was infused with her usual bold dramatic sensibility. Far from the politically charged atmosphere of Westwood’s efforts, Mulberry's Spring/Summer 2015 collection was inspired by the beauty and serene feelings summoned by viewing an English country garden on a summer's day. Mulberry also unveiled a new line of bags designed by actress, model and singer Cara Delevingne, revealed to lavish effect at a presentation at Claridges, a 5-star hotel in Mayfair, London.

Tom Ford unveiled a collection that seemed beamed directly from a decadent nightclub of the near future. With the collection being direct and sensual, pieces were sexy and glamorous. Long-sleeved mini dresses were rendered in sheer, airy fabrics and encircled by ribbons and encrusted with sequined, glittering shards. Christopher Bailey's collection for Burberry Prorsum, “The Birds and The Bees”, channelled looks from London’s street styles of recent years—ruched dresses were teamed with trainers, while vibrant clashing colors created a deliberately explosive effect on the catwalk.
